I watched it Today in the Afternoon. And honestly, I loved it! Why? Because it reignited memories of cycling MTB bikes in the afterschool hours in 90s, buying Video Cassettes, watching Hard Target, Mortal Kombat, Twins Dragon etc.!
The real movie basically starts post Interval! The first half is a bit lengthy, BUT, post interval enthralled me. If you’re buying popcorns, then buy in the second half. You wouldn’t want to miss a single scene. The recent Mortal Kombat -2 had the similar pace, as therein too the second half covered the first half’s defects.
The fight between Blanka VS Ryu, Balrog VS Ken, Dhalsim VS Ken, Honda VS Ryu, and the final fight between Ryu VS Akuma were wonderful. Whilst I sat till the post credit scene, and the end song, the fight continues had some good sketches drawn synced with the background theme.
Back then, I’ve mostly played video games either racing or gun fights based like Contra, NFS, Mario, King Kong, Tetris, Pacman etc. and later after the real evolution of games, FIFA, COD, Battlefield, Cyberpunk, Forza etc. But likes of Street Fighter I avoided because I hardly understood the Pace of the game. Means, you must either be swift, or, just keep pressing random buttons, whatever hits.
The best part about Street Fighter ‘26 is it looks like the Video Game. The characters seem as if you’re playing them. Their skills, acting, all are in sync with the 90s Video Game, which really amazed me. On the other hand, recently when I watched Resident Evil, then it had too much of horror. Understandable, as the Video Game itself is of horror genre, and thus, so the movie should also be. Whilst in the Street Fighter also you’ve characters like Akuma, yet they seemed more subtle. For example, there’s a difference between watching a movie based on a video game, VS, playing a video game at home. You can control lights, volume, settings, and that is where Resident Evil looked more of a flick, rather than based on a game.
Yes, at some points it had some goofy dialogues, out of sync acting, hiccups, like in the end, there was no need for Ken to sing a song etc.! Also, the role of Ken was also stretched to a certain extent, like the party scenes in the beginning. Yet, the second half covers the drawbacks of the first half.
Have you seen Mortal Kombat – The Scorpion’s Revenge, that animated one? I suggest you all to go & watch that. Spectacular Animation and Direction, especially the Last fight between the Scorpion and Subzero, if I remember it correctly. Excellent!
Thus, all said and done! I enjoyed this movie Today! And if you’re a Gamer, go and watch it, you will enjoy the second half.
