The reason why CLAYFACE is ‘Far Better’ than JOKER, amidst the forever Unresolved Problems of Gotham, is as explained herein below in detail:
Now, forget about the Syllabus what NYU teaches you, and read this. There’re two kinds of Movies in the World. First, which are Fast Paced (Mostly of Action Genre), and Second, which are simmered or fermented or ripened metaphorically for Ages (Mostly Art Movies), as being prepared to acquire an Adaptive Taste! In both cases, it is not necessary that Former would always Rule over Latter. I can give several examples to corroborate the same. Whilst it is also true that not all Art Movies are worth watching!
The biggest challenge for any Director & Writer is how to make an R rated Art Movie acquiring an Adaptive Taste for the audience. Mostly like a Thai Food (That’s an Adaptive Taste, wherein you may like it but it will take some time, or you may not like it at all). A Fast Paced movie is more easier to make than an adaptive taste Art Movie, due to quick editing, cutting dialogues, more actions or reactions etc. But a slow paced movie really require more Skills to engage the audience in the dialogues and script.
CLAYFACE is of that genre I’m talking about that delivers an engaging Art Adaptive Taste. And this is where it also distinguishes between Resident Evil and CLAYFACE, wherein even deformities & gore can be shown in a highly Subtle Manner. Indeed, at several moments, I had to distract myself whilst not looking at the Screen due to its gore surgeries, and I wouldn’t have even written this Review had I felt discomfort in watching it. But it Delivers Spectacularly. You’ve your Oscar Nomination! The Protagonist, his Doctor Scientist, delivers a Wonderful Chemistry and an evermore engaging script.
You’re engrossed in the dialogues. With their acting. You don’t require Big Sets or Marvel’s or DC other Expensive Casts. But why it is better than R rated Joker? Because, albeit the lead character therein also delivered a great performance, yet he was Stuck with his own obsessions without demonstrating how he evolved to someone else, or giving life’s philosophical examples, rather playing the same theme again and again from beginning till end. Whilst on the other hand in CLAYFACE, the Protagonist maintains charm, demonstrates a subtle philosophy of his evolution, whilst at the same time being exploiting the Powers he acquired, like in the Case of Hollow Man. But there’s a difference between two. In Hollow Man, the protagonist Misused his powers, from raping to stealing. On the other hand, in CLAYFACE, one can justify his Acts, until he executes the Scientist’s Fiancée, which neutralized his righteous Judgements when writing in the philosophical sense.
Thus, I would recommend you to Watch this Movie. This should be the Oscar Nomination. And the Protagonist has delivered an Exceptional Performance in this R rated series.
All said and done, an Excellent Watch! :)
