Marvelous! And I mean INDE deserve at least an Oscar nomination! Same was with Companion’s Sophie. You’ve these girls who out of nowhere, turn a low budget movie, into a multi-million dollar goldmine project. I watched it yesterday, and it was a thriller treasure. With no CGIs, and merely her acting, along with of Ian’s, that didn’t require anything or anyone else. Means, how can you make a flick so engaging, unlike other horror-thriller flicks with deformed casts; with mere couple of rooms, few outside scenes, couple of cars, with a beautiful background score so subtle & soothing. The selection of background score was truly excellent. Why? As normally in any horror or a thriller flick, you’ve loud drums, electric guitars, dark music. But in this, it felt so soothing, yet, terrifying. BTW the title of the movie should’ve been Possessed, and Not Obsessed, because, she was not naturally Obsessed with any relationship, but possessed due to the wish that Ian took.
And yes, I’m willing to compare such flicks with the expensive mainstream ones. Because just like a book is a book, no matter the price, but, if it is captivating and engaging, then even something published free online is worth reading.
Ian could’ve saved himself had he heard that Nikki already agreed for the Space, when he had put the tiger’s eye away from him.
In one of my poetries I wrote that if you like body of a girl, then, you must also love her mind, if the vice-versa in case of a man too is also not the myth. I’ll share the link in the end. In the present case, Nikki’s mind ne’er loved him. And as what Ian wished, could not be fulfilled, so, the wish only brought the Body of Nikki and not her Mind, thus, this all drama happened. As a saying goes, half knowledge is not worth trying.
This same feel I had when I had watched TUMBBAD, which was to me one of the brilliant horror genre that the Bollywood ever produced after RAAT (1992). These flicks too didn’t largely depend on the CGI, but the entire casting and the execution made one of the best horror-thriller flicks that I’ve ever watched.
But Obsession surprised me for two reasons. Firstly, because of its background score. I wasn’t expecting the moment the flick started, and that subtle music was played, that moment only I anticipated this should be worth watching. And Secondly, Nikki’s & Ian’s acting took this flick to the another level.
This is like few of the A24 productions. Low budget, but delivers’!
All said and done, an excellent thriller-horror genre, which shouldn’t be missed.
